In order to provide an effective service to the Isle of Man, Co-operative Food Supply Chain Logistics have recently invested in 4 bespoke Double Deck refrigerated trailers. Built by Gray & Adams; these fixed deck trailers are specially designed to match both the ferry restrictions and the movement restrictions on the island. They are fitted with the latest Carrier Vector refrigeration units, which are not only extremely powerful for this type of application, but also offer excellent fuel economy and reliability. In response to the complexity of the carbon footprinting debate, The Co-operative Group are taking part in a project with the Carbon Trust to help develop a standard method to calculate the carbon footprint of retail products and services. Co-operative Food Supply Chain Logistics Primary, by the smart planning of routes and use of resources is working within The Co-operative framework to reduce carbon emissions and to support nationally-sourced food initiatives by the collection and distribution of, for example, Welsh lamb and Scottish Aberdeen Angus beef. |
